Camera Clara Photo Award, created in 2012 in France by Joséphine de Bodinat-Moreno and developed by Audrey Bazin, artistic director from 2012 to 2022, then by Aurelie Chauffert-Yvart as of 2022, rewards every year an unpublished photographic work created with large format camera. The award is now renowned, especially abroad (68% of the applications come from other countries than France)

By dedicating an award to such a peculiar technic, in a digital world overwhelmed by images, by their transience, reflects the conviction that this specific artistic writing allowed by large format camera offers an unic way of expression for contemporary artists.

This singularity stems specifically from a relationship to time that runs counter to the acceleration of today's technical progress: pose, composition, breathing, interiority, slowness.

By using large format camera, one focuses on what is of utmost importance in photography: the point of view. By the plainness of the point of view, one gains access to pure beauty, to that moment of grace when time seems to lighten, suspend and disappear. Perhaps this is what drives the artistic quest: to reach that magical place within us that escapes time and space, that original place that only the photographic image can embody.

The jury brings together prestigious figures from the world of art and photography: Héloïse Conesa, curator for photography at the BnF (National Library of France), Marc Donnadieu, independent curator, Dominique de Font-Reaulx, curator at the Musée du Louvre, Anne Lacoste, director of the Institute of Photography, Chantal Nedjib, image and photography consultant, Guilllaume Piens, general curator of Art Paris, Michel Poivert, art historian and Fabien Simode, director of the Maisons-Alfort media libraries.
